These are from a column I published biweekly in the Cornell Daily
Sun, on random topics. Note that in many cases, the Sun
further edited the column slightly for space, and so the published
versions were often a few sentences shorter that the ones here.
(Writing a column in only 500 or 1,000 words isn't easy!)
- Oct 1, 1999 The Never-Ending
Battle: Parking tickets at Cornell, as seen from another
perspective that perhaps people don't usually think about.
- Oct 14, 1999 Escape From
Corn-Hell: Just a little blurb encouraging people to get
out and explore the beautiful countryside around Ithaca.
- Oct 28, 1999
Goofing-off-in-lecture.com: about new ways to avoid paying
attention to the teacher in high-tech classrooms.
- Nov 11, 1999
Beautiful Women, Big Breasts, and Bald Heads: or why the
latter one, along with my travels in China, lets me empathize with
the former two.
- Feb 3, 2000 Media Problems:
Griping about how the local news on TV sucks. (OK, this one is
pretty boring.)
- Feb 17, 2000 Spirit Wars: why
being a Cornell student (or Harvard student, or whatever)
doesn't make you better than anyone else.
- Mar 2, 2000 Back in my
day: what we may someday be telling our grandkids about
what life was like when we were young.
- Mar 16, 2000 'Til the Cows
Come Home: About how there's often more to a person than
meets the eye, and why Nelle on Ally McBeal might miss
out on life because she's unwilling to date a janitor.
- Apr 6, 2000 Large as Life:
What I found in Florida during Spring Break, when I looked
very, very, very closely.
- Apr 20, 2000 It's a Dog's
Life: what I'm trying to learn about life from a psychotic
dog I'm good friends with.
- May 4, 2000 The Beginning or
End of an Odyssey? A little reflection at the end of
another school year at Cornell.
